Today’s Agenda:

1. Take a quick cultural quiz on our reading, “Ten Ways to Not Be Taken For a Gringo.”

2. Review our four irregular verbs: tener, ir, ser, estar.

3. Read a story in table groups, “Mariana, la jovencita.”

4. Illustrate six scenes from the story:

--Hay una muchacha que se llama Mariana. Mariana quiere un perro.
--Les dice a su madre y a su padre: “Quiero un perro pequeño.”
--Sus padres le dicen “No, Mariana, eres demasiado joven.”
--Cuando Mariana tiene ocho años les dice a sus abuelos “Quiero un perro,” pero le dicen “¡No!”
--Cuando Mariana tiene diez años, recibe muchos animales. Recibe un perro de sus padres, un perro de sus hermanos, un perro de sus abuelos, un perro de sus tíos, y un gato de sus primos.
--Mariana está muy contenta, pero la familia necesita una casa más grande.

5. Practice telling the story aloud to a partner.

6. Hear from some brave volunteers to tell their version of the story to the class.

7. Practice writing the story.

Note: In the second semester we will be doing even more writing. We will start to be periodically graded on written versions of our stories. In the fourth quarter we will be telling these stories in the past!
