Español Uno (1):
Announcement: Next week we will have another one-on-one speaking assessment. You will be telling me a simple story in Spanish using pictures given to you. We will also be doing a similar speaking assessment during final exams.
Today’s Learning Objectives:
1. Assess your understanding of chapter 0-4 grammar…this was a near identical quiz to Tuesday’s practice quiz! If you did not choose to study your practice quiz and prepare yourself, ask yourself “why?”
2. Continue with our six-frame story illustration for “El camarero horrible.”
--frame one: Hay un camarero que se llama Desordenado.
--frame two: El camarero habla con un muchacho en un restaurante.
--frame three: El muchacho quiere come una hamburguesa.
--frame four: El camarero va a la cocina, pero no agarra una hamburguesa. Le agarra pescado.
--frame five: El muchacho mira el pescado y no está contento. Le grita: “¡No quiero pescado!”
--frame six: Pero el muchacho tiene mucha hambre así que come el pescado.
3. Using only the pictures, practice retelling the story of “El camarero horrible” to a partner.
4. Listen to class volunteers share their versions of “El camarero horrible.” Nice job, volunteers! Our exceptional volunteers impressed us by using vocabulary not in the story (“le dice” instead of “le grita,” for instance) and by self-correcting when something didn’t sound right (changing “el camarero agarrar” to “el camarero agarra”). IMPRESSIVE!
5. Review Profe Nick’s speaking rubric. What do I hear when a student “meets target” (B)? What do I hear when a student “exceeds target” (A)?
6. Practice writing an A-level retell of the story. A-level work includes plenty of detail, extensive vocabulary and consistency with grammar.
Homework: None.
Español Dos (2):
1. Listen to our song of the week: “Bikini amarillo a lunares”
2A. Speaking exams (#3)
2B. Alone or with a partner (while I am conducting speaking exams), complete the following:
--cultural reading: “Ten Ways to Avoid Being Taken for a Gringo”
--chapter four practice exam
--original story illustrations…you are FAR BETTER artists than me!
Homework: If you didn’t finish the cultural reading in class, it would be a good idea to do so at home.
