Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! I am really excited to be your Spanish 2 teacher. I'm so happy to see some familiar faces, and I'm looking forward to getting to know all my new students.
It has been a busy summer for me. My first child, Bradley, was born on Father's Day (June 20th), so I have a little baby at home. The previous blog entry has some pictures of him from late June. I'll be sure to post some more recent pictures soon. I'll be working part-time this year, so I will only be here for 4th-6th periods. While I won't be on campus all day, I do look forward to also seeing you at musical performances/theatrical performances/games. I already have the Jazz Band's Nov. 9th performance at The Triple Door scheduled on my calendar!
This site will recap for you what we did in class each day. On most days it is updated right after school, though there may be some days where it is updated later due to after school meetings.
Some important information to know about books/materials/grades/tests/etc. is below:
--Your Paso a paso 2 textbook (hardcover) will be distributed in class on Wednesday, Sept. 8th. It is a policy at IHS that all books (not workbooks) distributed to students need to be covered. Please cover your book! Your Paso a paso 2 workbooks will be distributed on Friday, Sept. 3rd, if you have already paid for it. If you have not paid the $8 for your workbook, please see the IHS Bookkeeper (Mrs. Justice) and pay her $8 cash/check. We will not be using the book in class much, but you will be bringing your workbook and a binder to class each day. Additionally, all students will be making mandatory chapter flashcards. You may choose to store each chapter's flashcards in separate Ziplock bags, on metal rings, or in any other way where they will stay organized and not be lost. You'll want to hold onto the flashcards all year, as tests are cumulative! Again, tests are cumulative!
--The grading scale for IHS World Language classes is probably similar to what you're used to, however, there might be some changes if you're coming from PCFC or one of the middle schools. Your grades round up, so 89.5% is an A-. Also, the lowest "passing" grade is 63%. A 62% is an F, not a D. Keep in mind, however, that to pass on to Spanish 3, the lowest grade you can earn is 73%.
--You should also know that daily homework assignments cannot be turned in late in any of the IHS World Language classes. This is department policy. This is especially significant if you were used to being able to turn in late work for Spanish 1. Again, daily assignments can't be turned in late!
--Lastly, as I will only be on campus for the afternoon and will be heading back home quickly to take care of my newborn, I unfortunately can't offer any after school sessions. That said, you can always ask me questions in class or over email!
See you tomorrow!
